About Flappy Bird

Flappy Bird is a one-input game: every tap gives the bird a small upward impulse, and gravity does the rest. Steering through gaps in a series of pipes is entirely a matter of rhythm, not reflex.

The physics you are fighting

Each tap replaces your current downward velocity with a fixed upward one, then gravity immediately starts pulling again. This means taps do not stack usefully — two rapid taps waste the second. The bird's path between taps is a parabola, so you are choosing where the curve peaks relative to the next gap.

Aim for the bottom of the gap, not the middle. Because the bird falls between taps, targeting the centre usually means clipping the top pipe on the way up. Approach slightly low and let a single tap carry you through.

Why is a steady rhythm better than reacting?

Because reaction introduces variance, and the game punishes variance more than it punishes imprecision. A metronomic tap keeps the bird oscillating in a narrow band, which is exactly what the gaps are sized for. Most deaths follow a panicked double-tap.

Does the game get harder?

The pipe gaps and speed usually stay constant — what changes is you. Scores drop with fatigue and tension, so long sessions typically produce worse runs than short ones. This is one of the few games where stopping early genuinely raises your best score.
