About Image Converter

Convert an image between JPG, PNG and WebP without installing anything. Conversion runs locally in your browser, so the file stays on your device.

What each format is for

JPG uses lossy compression tuned for photographs and cannot store transparency. PNG is lossless with full transparency support, ideal for logos, icons and screenshots. WebP does both — lossy or lossless, with transparency — and produces smaller files than either at comparable quality. The quality slider affects JPG and WebP output only.

What conversion cannot undo: saving a JPG as PNG does not restore the detail JPG discarded. The artefacts are baked into the pixels; PNG simply stores them losslessly and at a larger size. Always convert from the highest-quality original you have.

Does converting reduce quality every time?

Only when the target is lossy. PNG → WebP lossless or PNG → PNG loses nothing. JPG → JPG re-encodes and loses a little more each time, which is why repeatedly editing and resaving a JPG visibly degrades it. Keep an untouched master and export copies from it.

Why does my transparent image have a black or white background?

Because you converted to JPG, which has no alpha channel. The transparent areas must become some colour, and most encoders choose black or white. To keep transparency, export as PNG or WebP instead.
