About Notepad

A plain writing surface that opens instantly and keeps what you type in your browser's local storage. No account, no sync, no server — close the tab and the note is still there when you come back.

Where the text is kept

Everything is saved in your browser's local storage, on this device and in this browser only. It survives closing the tab and restarting the computer. It does not follow you to your phone, it is not backed up anywhere, and it is cleared if you wipe site data or use a private window.

Treat it as a scratchpad, not a document store. It is well suited to a phone number you need for ten minutes, a paragraph you are drafting, or text you are cleaning up between two applications. Anything you would be upset to lose belongs in a file you control.

Can I lose what I wrote?

Yes, in predictable ways: clearing browsing data, a browser set to clear storage on exit, private browsing mode, or the same site opened in a different browser. Some browsers also evict local storage automatically when disk space runs low. Copy anything important out before you close.

Is it private?

The text never leaves your device — it is not transmitted and cannot be read by this site's operator. But local storage is not encrypted, so anyone with access to your unlocked computer and browser profile can read it. It is private from the network, not from the person sitting at your desk.
