About Pomodoro Timer

A work timer built on the Pomodoro technique: focused intervals separated by short breaks, with a longer break after several rounds. Work, break and cycle lengths are all adjustable.

How the technique works

The classic setup is 25 minutes of work, a 5-minute break, and a 15–30 minute break after four rounds. The specific numbers matter less than the structure: a fixed, visible boundary makes starting easier, because you are committing to 25 minutes rather than to an open-ended task. The break is not optional — it is what makes the next interval possible.

The rule most people skip: if an interruption breaks a session, the session is void — restart it rather than resuming. That sounds harsh, and it is the point: it makes you defend the interval, and after a few voided sessions you start closing the tab that keeps costing you one.

Is 25 minutes the right length?

It is a starting point, not a finding. Deep work often runs better at 50 minutes with a 10-minute break, while a fragmented or difficult task may need 15. Adjust until the interval is short enough that starting feels easy and long enough to reach the useful part of a task.

Why do breaks improve output?

Sustained attention degrades measurably within tens of minutes, and pushing through produces slower, more error-prone work rather than more of it. A short break away from the screen restores enough attention to make the next interval genuinely productive. Spending the break on a phone feed largely defeats this.
